Sailing Jibsea

Steph and Travis Sexsmith, a Canadian couple, found themselves yearning for something far beyond the confines of a traditional 9-to-5 life. What they craved wasn’t just freedom; it was a grand adventure. The idea began as a dream: what if they could combine their desire for exploration with a way to share their journey? Maybe, just maybe, others would be inspired to follow along through YouTube and social media. 

It sounded like a fantasy but as they quickly learned, any dream worth chasing rarely comes easy. 

They worked tirelessly, saving every dollar they could. The cost wasn’t just financial. Pursuing this new life meant letting go of careers, saying difficult goodbyes to friends and family, and stepping away from the stability they once knew. With a shared vision and unwavering determination; they took the leap, Leaving life on land behind with just enough savings to (hopefully) stretch two years, assuming no major boat disasters occurred along the way.

Fast forward five years. 

Beginning with zero sailing experience, they have since created a life at sea spanning more than 40,000 nautical miles, two continents, hundreds of islands, and more countries than they can count. The memories of their ‘land life’ are beginning to fade, replaced by salt air, new friendships forged across oceans, and the thrill of the unknown.   

Steph and Travis are preparing for their boldest journey yet, Heading to the demanding North. Sailing to the artic circle and following in the footsteps of the Vikings, passing through Newfoundland, Greenland, Iceland, Faroe Islands, Scotland, Norway and beyond.   

This is more than just a sailing story, it’s proof that dreams, no matter how wild, are possible when passion meets persistence.
