Empowering Women in Sailing
The Magenta Project is an innovative and impactful initiative dedicated to advancing gender diversity and equity in the sailing industry. Founded by a group of former Volvo Ocean Race sailors, The Magenta Project champions opportunities for women in professional sailing, aiming to increase the visibility, participation, and leadership roles of women in this traditionally male-dominated sport. Their mission is to accelerate change and break down barriers, offering pathways for women at every level—from grassroots to elite competition.
Through Magenta's global network, the charity connects women in the sailing industry with mentorship, skills development, and career opportunities across various boat classes and sectors. The Magenta Project works closely with key partners like IMOCA and World Sailing to create an inclusive environment that encourages more women to pursue careers on the water and within sailing management. The charity’s mentoring programmes are designed to increase representation and offer hands-on experience in offshore racing, management, and media, while fostering leadership and professional growth.

Global Impact and Programmes
From Europe to North America and beyond, The Magenta Project works tirelessly to build partnerships with international sailing organizations, race teams, and stakeholders committed to diversity. One of The Magenta Project’s flagship mentoring programme pathways is the Management & Media Pathway, which creates opportunities for women in key roles behind the scenes, from project management to onboard media reporting (OBR).
Mustang Survival is a proud supporter of The Magenta Project's Offshore Pathway and new Management & Media Pathway programmes, including the development of onboard reporters (OBR) and media professionals working with the IMOCA class. Together, we are dedicated to empowering the next generation of female sailors and leaders in the sailing world.
